A diverse outlook

THANK YOU FOR THE TWO EXCELLENT ARTICLES ON LGBT students' experiences in the March 2005 issue of gradPSYCH ("Coming out, finding a fit" and "Meeting LGBT students' challenges"). I myself was out as a gay man to faculty and fellow students throughout gradu-ate school and internship. It can be challenging at times, but as diversity and cultural competency come to be increasingly valued, LGBT identity and expertise can be an important career asset, and we can be a helpful resource for non-LGBT colleagues as well.

I'm currently the director of Rainbow Heights Club, a publicly funded psychosocial and advocacy program for LGBT people living with mental illness. I applaud gradPSYCH and encourage you to continue to be a forum for a broad range of students' identities and experience.
