Students interested in presenting at APA’s 2007 Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 17–20, must submit their materials to APA by Dec. 1 for consideration. By presenting their work at the APA convention, students gain valuable public-speaking experience and professional contacts. APAGS follows APA rules for submissions. Nominate an outstanding state association The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) seeks nominations from students for the 2007 Outstanding State, Provincial or Territorial Psychological Association of the Year Award. APAGS, APA’s Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice (CAPP) and Div. 31 (State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs) present this $1,500 award each year to a state, provincial or territorial psychological association (SPTA) that has demonstrated exemplary commitment to promoting graduate student development and joint APAGS/SPTA member-ship. The application deadline is Jan. 15. SPTAs that have won the award within the last five years, including last year’s winner—the New York State Psychological Association—are not eligible for the 2007 award. Get involved in APAGS leadership Develop leadership skills, represent student colleagues and nationally advocate for psychology by serving in an elected position on the APAGS Committee. APAGS members are eligible to run for one of the following elected positions, which begin in August 2007: chair-elect; member-at-large, education focus; and member-at-large, communications focus. APAGS is also accepting applications for the chair of the APAGS Convention Committee. The application deadline for each position is Feb. 16. Applicants must be APAGS members and actively enrolled as students in good standing in a graduate psychology program. Apply for a spring 2007 CEMA grant The APAGS Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) awards up to two $500 grants each spring semester and up to three $500 grants each fall semester for projects that recruit, retain and enhance the training of ethnic-minority graduate psychology students. Examples include workshops, conferences, speaker series, mentorship programs and the development of student organizations with a focus on multiculturalism or ethnic-minority concerns. ACT honors outstanding student advocates The APAGS Advocacy Coordinating Team (ACT) congratulates its state advocacy coordinators and campus representatives for their outstanding efforts as part of the ACT network, which promotes student advocacy and monitors legislative activity that affects psychology.
