CONVENTION 2003
Volume 1, Number 1
May 2003
Cost-saving at convention
Students planning to attend APA's 2003 Annual Convention should make plans
early to take advantage of extra savings, convention organizers say.
American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) members can
preregister for $60 before June 23; the cost is $70 on-site. Full-time students
who are not APAGS members can register for $85 in advance, $95 on-site. To register,
visit www.apa.org/convention03.
Students might also check with their university, department or student organizations
about any financial assistance for their convention travel.
AIRFARE
The official convention airline carriers are United Airlines and Air Canada.
United and United Express offer a 5 percent discount for those attending the convention
or 10 percent off unrestricted midweek coach fares. If your tickets are purchased
at least 60 days in advance, an additional 5 percent discount is available. To
make reservations, call United Airlines at (800) 521-4041 and refer to meeting
ID number 597BD. For Air Canada, call (800) 361-7585 or (514) 393-9494 and refer
to convention number CV030820.
Discounted airfares can also often be found on Internet sites such as www.cheaptickets.com,
www.orbitz.com and www.expedia.com.
HOTEL RESERVATIONS
APA's headquarters hotels this year include the Crowne Plaza Toronto, connected
to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, a 5-minute
walk to the convention, and the Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel, a 20-minute
walk.
Students booking hotel rooms before July 3 can take advantage of special rates
through APA's housing service, ExpoExchange.
To do this, a hotel reservation form can be obtained at www.apa.org/convention03/hotelres.pdf
or by contacting ExpoExchange at (800) 424-5249 or (847) 940-2155. Reservations
should be made as early as possible since headquarters hotels often fill up fast.
Low-cost housing options are also available near the Metro Toronto Convention
Centre at, for example, Hostelling International (www.hostellingint-gl.on.ca),
Massey College Student Residence (www.utoronto.ca/massey) and the Neill-Wycik
College Hotel (www.neill-wycik.com).
