Wanted: student ambassadors
The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) is looking
for students interested in becoming student ambassadors during APA's 2003 Annual
Convention. As an ambassador, students will monitor one APAGS session by handing
out evaluation forms, taking a head count and collecting evaluations as people
exit the presentation.
APAGS ambassadors should plan to attend the Ambassador Training Session on
Aug. 6, 66:50 p.m., at the Toronto Convention Centre. Students who pre-register
for convention and serve as an ambassador will get $10 off registration fees and
receive a Certificate of Recognition for participating.
If you are interested, contact the
APAGS office by June 30.
In your e-mail message, provide your name, mailing and e-mail address, and
if you can attend the Ambassador Training Session. Also indicate if you speak

Student programming again will follow a new convention format that allows more
content-specific presentations and discussions. As always, students can unwind
or socialize in the APAGS suite and attend suite programs.
And, as in years past, APAGS will sponsor a three-hour pre-convention internship
workshop. But this year it will add breakout discussions, held throughout the
convention in the APAGS suite. Session attendees can talk with internship directors
about the application and interviewing process. In addition, APAGS will offer
a second, new pre-convention workshop on choosing a doctoral program. The workshop
will cover various branches of psychology and different types of degrees. To sign
up for the workshops, check the APAGS Web site, www.apa.org/apags.
Another pre-convention workshop, "Preparing for an academic career"offered
by APA's Education Directoratewill focus on teaching and varying faculty
roles across different types of institutions. To sign up, contact Joan Freund.
A return APAGS feature will be the "Food for thought" breakfasts,
which give students a chance to eat and talk with high-profile psychologists.
To sign up for one of the breakfastsheld each morning in the APAGS suitestop
by the APAGS booth.
These are just a few of the many convention events for students this year.
More student programming highlights appear on the following pages. Visit the APAGS
Web site for the complete information, including room locations, session descriptions,
committee and special-interest meetings, pre-convention events and student poster
listings.
