Check out Psi Chi's graduate student awards

Psychology's national honor society, Psi Chi, offers several award and grant programs for graduate student research, many of which are presented each year at APA's Annual Convention. The awards include:

  • The Thelma Hunt Research Grants, which are three awards of $3,000 each that honor graduate-level empirical research on a question directly related to Psi Chi's mission. The application deadline is October 1.


  • The SuperLab Research Grant, which honors outstanding graduate student computer-based research. The winner receives a copy of SuperLab software. The application deadline is October 1.


  • The Erlbaum Award in Cognitive Science, which is a $500 prize that honors empirical graduate-level research in cognitive science. The application deadline is May 1, 2005.


  • The Edwin B. Newman Graduate Research Award, which honors outstanding graduate-level research. The award includes travel expenses to the APA Annual Convention and a three-year subscription to an APA journal of the winner's choice. The application deadline is February 1, 2005.

  • The National Convention Research Awards, which are eight prizes of $300 each that honor outstanding graduate and undergraduate research presented at national psychology conventions. The application deadline is December 1.


  • The Regional Research Awards, which are 75 awards of $300 each that honor outstanding graduate and undergraduate research at psychology's regional meetings. Deadlines vary according to region.
