Volume 2, Number 3, June 2004 Psychology students land NSF grantsThe National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced the recipients of its 2004 Graduate Fellowship Awards. The NSF provides these fellowships to help fund graduate study in mathematics, engineering and the physical, behavioral and social sciences leading to research-based master's or doctoral degrees. The highly competitive fellowships netted nearly 9,000 applications for only about 900 awards. Of the applicants, 635 were psychology students, and 65 of them received grants—the highest totals for both psychology applicants and recipients since 1999. The graduate fellowships offer three years of support and an annual stipend of $30,000 for each fellow, plus $10,500 for education allowance to cover tuition. Applicants are either undergraduate seniors or just beginning their first or second year of graduate school.
