APAGS guides target diverse student needs
Looking for advice on selecting practicum
sites or on how to talk to clients about your sexual orientation? Look no further: APAGS offers five
resource guides that address some of the most challenging issues graduate students face, such
as managing the internship application search and navigating graduate school with a disability.
They are:
The APAGS Resource Guide for LGBT Students in Psychology, which addresses
the unique experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, such as confronting
homophobic attitudes among peers or faculty. The guide offers advice on finding a mentor and social
support, doing LGBT-related research and self-disclosure issues to consider with adult clients.
The guide costs $8 for APAGS members; $12 for nonmembers. Download an order form at www.apa.org/apags/lgbtguide.html.
Succeeding in Practicum: An APAGS Resource Guide, which offers tips
on selecting practicum sites and how to make the most out of practicum supervision. The guide also
details ethics issues students should consider and how to use practicum to prepare for internship.
The guide costs $8 for APAGS members; $12 for nonmembers. Download an order form at www.apa.org/apags/practicumguide.html.
Resource Guide for Psychology Graduate Students with Disabilities,
which features student-relevant information from the federal Americans with Disabilities Act
and offers strategies for how students with disabilities can integrate into a psychology graduate
program. Also included are stress-management tips and national resources on disability issues.
