Share your favorite psychology jokes

Do you know a good gag about psychology or psychologists? APA’s Div. 1 (Society for General Psychology) is sponsoring a contest to find the best psychology-related joke. The three categories are best joke, best joke submitted by a student and best original cartoon. The division will present $100 to the three winners at APA’s 2007 Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 17–20, at its symposium on humor. Further details are available on Div. 1’s Web site at www.apa.org/divisions/div1. Entries are due Feb. 15. E-mail them to Humor Chair Joseph Palladino, PhD, via e-mail.

Military division seeks award candidates

Div. 19 (Society for Military Psychology)is accepting applications for its student awards and research grants. The division offers student travel awards to support APA Annual Convention participation as well as a Military Psychology Research Grant to assist graduate and undergraduate psy-chology students with research costs. The division seeks proposals in any area of psychology related to the advancement of military psychology. The application deadline is May 1. Instructions and application materials are available on the Div. 19 Web site at www.apa.org/divisions/div19.

Apply for Div. 47 Dissertation Award

Div. 47 (Exercise and Sport) invites applications for its annual Dissertation Award. This award recognizes outstanding student research on exercise and sport psychology. The award includes a plaque, $100 and the opportunity to present the winning project at APA’s 2007 Annual Convention in San Francisco.

To apply, send a 1,500-word summary that includes an introduction, literature review, methodology/statistics, discussion and proposed contribution to science and practice. Application materials should also include references, contact information for the applicant’s adviser and confirmation that the applicant will complete his or her dissertation and degree by no later than Dec. 31. The student applicant or his or her dissertation adviser must be a member of Div. 47 at the time of application. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15. Mail them to Christopher Janelle, PhD, Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology, University of Florida, P.O. Box 118206, Gainesville, FL 32611.

A blind review panel of Div. 47 members will judge the applications and announce their selection by March 13. For more information, contact Janelle at e-mail.
