Apply for APAGS 2004 scholarships and awards

APAGS is now accepting applications for its 2004 scholarships, grants and awards, which recognize students and those who support them for excellence in several areas, such as working with underserved populations or researching diversity.

To be eligible to apply or nominate a candidate, graduate students must be enrolled in good standing at least part time at a regionally accredited university.

The application and nomination deadline is June 14, except when noted otherwise. For application instructions and submission guidelines, visit www.apa.org/apags/members/schawrdsintro.html.

The awards are:

blue asterisk The David Pilon Scholarship for Training in Professional Psychology, a $1,000 scholarship to support training and education in professional practice.

blue asterisk The Ellin Bloch and Pierre Ritchie Honorary Scholarship, a $1,000 prize that honors research on a social issue or underrepresented group in psychology; the 2004 topic is "Resilience."

blue asterisk The Larry J. Bass Jr. Memorial Scholarship Award, a $1,000 scholarship for research on the regulation of psychology, such as research on the history of psychology's licensure and certification.

blue asterisk The Scott Mesh Honorary Scholarship for Research in Psychology, a $1,000 prize for dissertation research in any field of psychology.

blue asterisk The Raymond D. Fowler Award, which honors a psychologist who has made an outstanding contribution to students' professional development.

blue asterisk The Department of the Year Award, a $1,000 prize that honors a graduate psychology department for excellence in meeting students' needs.

blue asterisk The Diversity Dissertation Scholarship, a $1,000 prize to support a nearly completed dissertation or other proposed research on diversity.

blue asterisk The Nancy B. Forest and L. Michael Honaker Master's Scholarship for Research in Psychology, a $1,000 award for thesis research at the master's level in any field of psychology.

blue asterisk The Kenneth and Mamie Clark Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Professional Development of Ethnic Minority Graduate Students, which honors an ethnic-minority psychologist for contributions to the academic and professional development of minority students.

blue asterisk The APAGS Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs Grant Program, which offers several $500 grants to support projects on recruiting, retaining and enhancing the training of ethnic-minority graduate students. The application deadline is July 1.

blue asterisk The APA/APAGS Award for Distinguished Professional Contribution by a Graduate Student, a $1,000 prize that honors a graduate student for his or her work with an underserved population. The award offers free travel to APA's 2004 Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28–August 1. The application deadline is May 31.
