Fund your dissertation research

APA’s Div. 15 (Educational) invites its graduatestudent members to apply for a dissertation research award. The award provides financial support for educational psychology doctoral students who are preparing to collect theirdissertation data. Each award offers a $1,000 stipend.

Applicants must be graduate students who have submitted or defended dissertation proposals. Graduate students who are not already division members or affiliates can join at www.apa.org/about/division/memapp.html.

A completed application should include: a brief summary of your dissertation work that includes a separate title page with full contact information, an abstract and contact information for your dissertation chair; a three- to four-page summary that includes the title of your study, statement of the problem, research question, hypotheses and proposed methodology (double-spaced, maximum 1,000 words, prepared for blind review); and a curriculum vitae.

Submit these components in one e-mail with three separate attachments, saved as Microsoft Word files, to Michele Gill via e-mail. Include your Div. 15 membership status in the body of the e-mail (e.g., “member since April 2006”). Submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. on May 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Apply for APAGS 2008 scholarships and awards

APAGS is now accepting applications for its 2008 scholarships, grants and awards, which recognize students and those who support them for excellence in several areas, such as working with underserved populations or researching diversity.

To be eligible to apply or to nominate a candidate, graduate students must be enrolled in good standing at least part time at a regionally accredited university. Applications and nominations must be received by May 16 unless otherwise noted.

To find out more information about the 13 awards and grants, which range from $1,000 to $1,500, and for application instructions and submission guidelines, visit the APAGS Web site at www.apa.org/apags/members/schawrdsintro.html.

Be an APAGS ambassador in Boston

Students looking to maximize their networking opportunities and get involved with APAGS at the 2008 APA Annual Convention in Boston can sign up to be an APAGS ambassador. APAGS ambassadors monitor at least one APAGS program during the convention and provide information to convention attendees, particularly students, and distribute APAGS promotional items.

This year marks APAGS’s 20th anniversary, and the APAGS Convention Committee and APAGS staff have developed a number of exciting programs and activities to celebrate this milestone in Boston. For more information on ambassador responsibilities and registration, visit www.apa.org/apags/convention.

Vote for APAGS leaders

All APAGS members may vote in the annual APAGS leadership election. The ballot period for the 2008 APAGS elections will take place in May. Throughout the month, APAGS members can read candidate statements and vote online at www.apa.org/apags.
